About SNAP!
“The photos are… miraculous. You did just a brilliant job of capturing the personalities and emotions present on those days. Thank you so much!” - Dave & Jen Roland
The SNAP! Story
SNAP! was started in September 2006 as a part-time venture for me, Joe Portnoy, Lead Photo Maker. Through much encouragement from friends and family, I stepped out and started this studio. SNAP! is the biggest thing I have ever done.
In May of 2004, I moved to Washington DC to work at XM Satellite Radio. After living in DC for 2 months, I had my car stolen along with my 35mm film camera. I was crushed because I wouldn’t be able to take photos until I could buy a new camera. My brother, Ryan, purchased a digital SLR, which I often borrowed. I knew I wouldn’t be able to go back to film after using it, so I planned to purchase my first digital camera.
In July 2005, I shot my sister-in-law, Kelly’s, bridal portraits and that was when the idea for SNAP! was born.
Over the last 2 years, I have photographed about 20 weddings and have shot various parties, conferences, events, and performances at XM Radio.
What the future holds for SNAP!
In the coming years, I look to continue to build on the success of photographing weddings. I also plan to take my talents wherever they are needed, whether it is at a wedding, party, or in Uganda. I am inspired to capture current issues, such as the living conditions for the people in Gulu.
I hope you enjoy looking at the photographs on the site. I purposely wanted a photo on every page to show you the diversity of the photographs that I shoot. I hope the photographs make you laugh, cry, or change your mind.
Please visit the contact page to receive more information on wedding packages and other event rates. I am always willing to travel.
